The first el. is abbod , with reference to the possession of this manor by the abbey of Sherborne, cf. terre nuper Abbat ' de Schyrborn 1551DLCt , Hutch3 3230; 'street' could refer to the Badbury Rings-Poole Harbour Roman road (Margary 4d), the course of which is still traceable here, but the later sense 'straggling village, hamlet' is also possible, v. strǣt .
