'Herman's enclosure', from the OFr  pers.n. Herman (OG  Her (e )man ), or the ME surname derived from it, cf. Walter Herman 1327, 1332 SR (Cranborne), and ME  hay (OE  (ge)hæg). Hr Hamhay is named in relation to Lr Hamhay for which v. Baber's Fm supra .
