Etymology

Colmer Fm (ST 379002), Colmer Farm 1843TA , Colemere 1398 IpmR, 1399 Cl, Colmer 1546Ct , 1811 OS, 1863 Hutch3, Comer 1774 Hutch1, 1795 Boswell, cf. William Colemore 1327 SR, William le Colemer (sic, probably for William de Colemer )1332 ib, William Colmer 1331HarlCh , 1546Ct . 'Cool pond or pool', from OE  cōl2 and mere . There are streams and a spring (marked 6″) nearby. The 1327 form shows confusion of the second el. with mōr 'marshy ground', cf. Ashmore 2201, Enmore Green 348.
