Etymology

The first el. seems to be *bagga 'bag', possibly in the sense 'badger' or as a topographical word for 'a bag-like feature in the landscape, e.g. hillock' (cf. Baggeridge 2284), v. lacu 'stream', with ēast , west , eald .For the 1615 and 1661 references to (East ) Dowerfield (e ), cf. next name.
