Etymology

'Lower outlying farmstead', from stoc and neoðerra , niðerra 'lower down' (that is 'lower in elevation' as well as 'lower downstream' in relation to Halstock itself which lies c.1 mile S). There is mention of a mill in Netherstoke in 1253AddCh and 1360 Pat, cf. Halstock Mill and Well Ho infra .
