Etymology

'Foul copse', v. fūl , sc(e)aga, but the spellings Foyl - 1286, Folegh - 1287 (metathesised), indicate an alternative name 'fowl copse', v. fugol , cf. Fullhurst 331infra , Fulshaw Mdw 77supra .
