Etymology

Lindow Moss (101–8281, but formerly 816785 to 830817), an extensive bog giving name to Lindow Common, 1831 Bry, Lindow Cottage, Lindow Grove & Lindow Ho and Davenport Green (infra ) in this township, Lindow Fm in Mobberley 333infra , Lindow (End) in Chorley 226supra , and Lindow End in Great Warford 105supra . The earlier forms are Lyndowe More 1421AddCh , Great Lindoe & Little Lindoe (in Wilmslow and Mobberley parishes respectively) 1608 Sheaf. This is probably 'lime-tree hill', from lind and hōh .
