Etymology

'Butta's clearing', from an OE  pers.n. Butta and lēah, (cf. DEPN, s.v.). The Bo - spellings are most probably due to AN orthography. The two DB entries are taken by Tait, 213n., to be moieties of the one manor. Earw ii 254 suggests that one or the other represents Newton 205infra ,
