Etymology

Abbey Fm. Cf. le Abbeygate 1455Rental , Abbey land 1769Trinity .It is named from the Abbey of Calder (Cu) which also gave name to The Caldrees (6″). This is ten. Abbatis de Caldra 1285Ass , Caldernys 1455Rental , Caldern (e )s 1483 ib., Caldreys 1529Ct , Caldreys Grange 1600Cole xix, terra de Caldresse 1549Ct , Calderuns 1561Trinity , Coldres 1596Cole xxxvii, Chalders 1673 ib. It belonged to that Abbey in 1254 (Val).
