Etymology

Grange Fm is grangiam de Chippenham , grangiam monialium de Chykesonde 13thHosp , le Brende Grange 1540 EA vii. The site of the grange was given to the Priory of Chicksands by Rohaise widow of Geoffrey Earl of Essex c. 1155 (Beds. Hist. Rec. Soc. i, 112). Brende refers to some unrecorded fire.
