Etymology

'Open land of Scīene's people', v. -inga-, feld . The pers.n. Scīene , Scēne is found also in Shingay C 65. The spelling in DB shows the confusion of -l - and -n - which is common in this county. The DB form Soanesfelt , given under Shinfield in DEPN, is very much more likely to refer to Swallowfield (108)'
