Ulvritone
Early-attested site in the Parish of Newbury
Etymology
Ulvritone (lost). This is the name of the manor in DB, in which Newbury was included. The extent of the manor is discussed in VCH i, 313, 363, and iv, 134–5. Possibly an -ingtūn name with pers.n. in Wulf - as first el., but the p.n. does not occur again, and the DB form is insufficient for a safe etymology. By a strange coincidence there is a lost DB manor in Db called Ulvritune .
