Etymology

North Croft, Northcroft Ditch, Northcroft Lane, Northcroft 1252–5FF , le Northcrofte 1439–40RentSur , Hy 6ib , Northcrofte mead 1567Windsor . Northcroft Lane is Northecroft lane Ed 6LRMB , Northcroft Lane 1745 ArchJ 17, and possibly Northcrosse lane 1547LRMB , v. norð , croft . This was the town meadow, and is north of the R. Kennet; presumably the meadow was named from a croft or enclosure here.
