Surley Hall Road, cf. Surly Hall 1800 Eden. This may be named from Suthelee 1333 Brocas, South Ley 1490 Brocas, Sudley , Great and Litill Southley 1548LRMB , 'south wood or clearing', v. sūð , lēah .Development of sūð to Sur - would be identical with that found in Circourt in Wantage.
