Etymology

Dedworth, Dideorde 1086 DB, Didewurth '1204 P, Diddewurth '1204–5FF , 1241Ass , Dydewrze 1220 Fees, Diddeworth '1224–5Ass , Didewurth 1227–8FF , Didiwrth '1247–8Ass , Dydeworth 1284ib , Diddewrþe , Dudewrth 1294SR , Diddeworthe 1316 FA, Dideworthe 1330 Ipm, Didworthmauncel 1334 Brocas, Dideworth Maunsel 1354 ib, Dedeworth -Loryng 1401Windsor , 'Dydda's worð'. Ekwall (DEPN) gives an OE  pers.n. Dydda , which he assumes to be a side-form of Dudda , as the first el. of this name, and of Dedham Ess and Tidenham Gl; v. also Gl 2, 9. Peter de Loring held land here at the beginning of the 13th, and John Maunsell is mentioned in this connection in 1313 (VCH III, 74).
