( lost ) , majori spina 1235 Pont v. þorn ; the successor of this old thorn tree existed in 1892 at the point where the bounds of Pontefract , Knottingley and Ferrybridge met ; called Gospel Thorn in the eighteenth century ( Pont i , 199 n ) , because the Gospel was read there when the parish bounds were beaten .
