Etymology

Brackenhill (lost), Brakenhil (l )c. 1090, c. 1160 Pont, Hy 2 (1230) Ch, Brackanhil 1119–2 Pont, Brachehel 1122 ib, Brackeneil 1135–6 ib, Brakenehil c. 1220 ib. This appears to be a different place from Brackenhill in Ackworth (94infra ) and to have been near Penny Lane on the borders of Purston Jaglin (cf. 1220 Pont), v. brakni , hyll .
