, Clatter Bridge 1831 Bry, Claterbrugge 1396Most ( a bridge ) , cf. Great Clatterbridge , Clatterbridge 1843TA , and Clatterbridge Workhouse (252infra )1842 OS . Bryant 's map 1831 shows Clatter Bridge , a bridge , and Clatter Bridge , a hamlet , at the boundary of Thornton Hough and Poulton cum Spital , cf. 252infra . The p.n. is probably ' noisy bridge ' , from ME  clater ' clatter, noise ' , but it could mean ' causeway of loose stones or rubble ' , from clæter , v. brycg .
