Etymology

'Farm or enclosure at the Ness', or 'farm belonging to the village of Ness', from tūn and ness , næss (cf. Burton Point 212supra ) or tūn prefixed by the p.n. Ness 220supra . Cf. Little Neston 225infra . Some of the forms suggest also OE  nesu (neosu), ME  nese (neose) 'the nose', figuratively 'a headland, a promontory'.
