Etymology

Hadlow Rd (109–326763 to 330775), Hadlow Wood (109–327767), [ˈhadlou] older local [ˈadlə], the three Adlowes 1688 Sheaf, The Alders 1789 ib, Hadlow Lane 1831 Bry, 1842 OS, Adler , The Adler 1843TA (freq ), a group of fields and a road which probably carry the p.n. Edelaue 1086 DB f.263b, cf. Tait 113 and xiii. The identification was made by W. Fergusson Irvine in 1893, who suggested this was the meeting-place of Wilaveston hundred, cf. prec. and Wirral Hundred 167supra . Edelaue is 'Ēada's mound', from hlāw and the OE  pers.n. Ēada , a pet-form for one of the OE  pers.ns. in Ēad -.
