Etymology

Fleshbeck, Fleshbecke 1621, 1635 Kend ii, 393, 395–6, probably ON  fles 'rocky isle, flat crag'; cf. Norw  fles 'low-lying islet', Norw.dial. flesja 'flat stone', the latter suggested for Fleshwick (loM, Marstrander 112–4) and Fleswick (Cu 429), cf. also Flesh Crags (i, 183infra ); v. bekkr 'stream'. This small stream runs into the Lune where there is a large island.
