Etymology

Mainridding (lost), Leedes Harthe or Manyryddyn 1539 Thoresby ix, 299, Ledes Manerydne 1545 LS, the Maynrede of Ledes 1561 Dep, Leed (e )s Mainrid (d )ing (e ), Leed (e )s Mainryd (d )ing (e )1601Comm , 1606 FF, 1610 SRet freq to 1729 LdsM. 'The demesne clearing', v. main , rydding . This was one of the three divisions of Leeds, the others being Leeds Town and Kirkgate (DucLds 80); it included Meadow Lane and the south side of Leeds Bridge (1666 Ct 136), as well as the west of the borough (cf. foll.). Harthe may here mean 'forge' (ME  herthe ).
