Etymology

'Knút's outlying farmstead', from the ON  pers.n. Knútr and þorp.The reduction to Knows - is normal (as with Fewston v, 122infra ) and for the inverted spelling Knox - cf. Roxby YN 90 (from Rauðsby ).
