Etymology

Forshaw Heath is Fossawe 1309 AD ii, 1316 AD iv, Fosshawe 1387, 1609FF , Fosseshawe 1444 ib., Foshaw (e )1544, 1655 ib., Foreshoende 1580Add , Fossowende 1601 ParReg, Foshawe al. Forshawe 1664FF . The forms are too late for any certainty. The first element may be the same word fos , 'ditch,' which is found in Fosse Way supra 7. Another possibility is that the name is for earlier foxa-sceaga , 'foxes' copse,' v. sceaga .
