Etymology

The first element would seem to be an unrecorded pers. name Winda . There is some slight evidence for a Germanic element Wind - in pers. names (cf. Förstemann PN 1617), and in English we have the pers. name Windel in Windsor (Berks), ASC s. a. 1097 Windlesora , which shows a diminutive form.'Winda's hamm or enclosure.'
