Etymology

There is evidence for an OE  pers. name Lod or Loda in the derivative name Loding in the Leechdoms and in the p.n.'s Loddington (Nth), DBLodintone and Loddiswell (D), DB Lodeswilla . It may be a pet-form of one of the rare OE  names in Hlōð -. Hence, 'Lod's enclosure,' v. worð . The river at Lodsworth is known locally as the Lud but that is clearly a back-formation.
