Historical Forms

  • terra voc. Westenyes 1398 Ct

Etymology

Weston's Fm (6″) seems to be connected with the terra voc. Westenyes of 1398 (Ct ). That form is difficult of interpretation.Perhaps it is the name of a piece of land on the farm. The land here is low-lying and marshy and yes may be the pl. of ey (from eg ) 'island of land in marsh.' If so, this land was known as 'Weston-eys' and en is a weakened form of on . The farm is on the western border of the parish.
