  • Grautewyk 1332 SR

Etymology

Greatwick Fm gave name to Stephen de Gratewyk (1288Ass ), Thomas Grauetwyk (1327 SR) and John de Grautewyk (1332 SR). This would seem to be a compound of wic and OE  grafet 'excavation, trench,' but the reason for the name is not obvious.
