Historical Forms
- Fellday 1808 AbingerParReg
Etymology
Felday. This is Fellday in 1808 (Abinger ParReg), but its earlier history is uncertain. It is no doubt to be associated with Feldemore infra 259, just over the parish boundary, in Abinger. In a Rental of 1858 in the possession of Mr Bray of Shere, we have mention of Felde Bottom in Shere which seems to be the valley between the present Felday and Feldemore. Felde is clearly OE feld, 'open space.' As the bottom of the valley is well watered, -ay may represent OE eg, ME ey , 'well-watered land.'
