Etymology

Inholms Fm is Innome 1342, Southinome , le Middelinome 1380, le Inhomes 1381, Inhamlond , le Inhame 1385Norfolk , the Inholmes 1550LRMB . This element has been discussed in PN Sx 29, where it is shown to be a compound of OE  nam , 'seizure,' in an unrecorded sense of 'taking.' Hence 'piece of land taken in , or enclosed.' Further examples are Eliotes Innome and Crapoldes Innome 1309 Cl. in Earley and Whitley (Berks). Inholms must be at the edge of the ancient Hamwudu , v. Holmwood supra 271 and infra 362.
