Etymology

Uxmore Fm takes name from Ulkesmere 1278–9 RH, Uxmere 1615Ipm , Uxmoor 1633Ipm , Uxmore early 18th ParColl. The second element mere, 'pool.' The first is uncertain; a secondary form *yxen of oxa , 'ox' (cf. ON wxi , pl. yxn ), might be thought of.
