Etymology

Wiggen Hall is Wygenhale 1349–96 Gesta, Wythgynhalle 1427, 1433Cassio , Wythgynhalbrige 1485 ib., Wyggynhalle mede 1505 ib., Wythinghall 1556AOMB , Wignall 1609FF . There has clearly been some corruption here. The first element may be OE  *wiþegn , wiðing , 'withy.' Cf. Welhamgreen supra 66. The place lies low. v. healh .
