Etymology

This is called Albanestou Hundret in DB and Hundred de Sco Albano in 1165 (P). It comprised all the Hertfordshire manors belonging to St Albans, earlier Albanestou . v. supra 26. It is first called Kaysho in 1248Ass and is also Kaysho 1255 ib., 1256FF , Caysho 1342Ass . The more usual ME name was Caysford 1262Ass , 1275 RH, 1303, 1346, 1428 FA, Kaysford 1287Ass , Kaisford 1301 Ipm, Caysforthe 1428 Annales.
