Etymology

Strines, Stryndes , Strindes , Strendes 1285, 1299For (p), 1350 DbCh (p), 1588FF , 1611 DbA xxxii, 1625Rental , Strines 1633 DbA vi, 1714DuLa . This is from the pl. of ME  strind with some such meaning as 'stream, watercourse', cf. the Middleste cloughe or strynd 1533Bateman (in Hartington), The Stryne infra 606 and ye Streynes 1581Dep (near Willington). Strines is situated in a meander of the R. Goyt and at the foot of four tributary valleys, two of which have streams and two are dry.
