Etymology

'East farm', v. ēast , tūn , lying east of R. Weaver, and in the southeast corner of Runcorn parish, cf. Norton, Sutton, Weston 173, 180, 182infra . The later forms show confusion with æsc 'an ash-tree'.The suffixes refer to Sutton and to R. Weaver 138, Dutton 112supra , Crewood 326infra . For earlier forms, v. Middleton Grange infra .Aston by Sutton, Aston Grange and Middleton Grange are frequently comprehended by the name Eston , Aston , without addition, and it is not always possible to distinguish between the parts of what must have been originally one territory. Aston was a parochial chapelry of Runcorn parish, v. 159supra .
