Etymology

'Farm on R. Bollin', from tūn and the r.n. Bollin , cf. R. Bollin 15supra , Bollington 330infra . Ekwall RN 40 observes that this place is on a stream now called R. Dean (cf. 20supra ) a principal tributary of R. Bollin, which must formerly have shared the name of the main stream. Webb's Itinerary , c.1620 (Orm2 iii546) has 'and so to Bollington situate on the Bollin'.
