Etymology

'Farm by a river', v. tūn . The first el. is ēg 'water-meadow, land by a river', interchanging with ēa 'a river', cf. DEPN. The place is beside R. Weaver. Cf. E(a)ton 326 infra , 1 61, Vale Royal, Moulton 327, 207infra , Davenham 203supra .
