Etymology
The ancient parish of Grappenhall comprised 1. Grappenhall (now a c.p. including Thelwall 138supra ), 2. Latchford (the part north of the Manchester Ship Canal is now included in Warrington county borough La, and the part south of the canal, called Latchford Without, is now included in Stockton Heath c.p. 145 infra ).
