Etymology

The ecclesiastical parish of Audlem contained 1. Audlem, 2. Buerton, 3. Hankelow, 4. Tittenley (transferred to Salop in 1895, now included in Adderley Sa), and also parts of Dodcott cum Wilkesley 92infra , Newhall 101infra , and Coole Pilate 138infra . There is no mention of a church at Audlem in DB, the first reference noted being ecclesia de Aldelyme JohnAddCh 875. The parish was probably formed out of Wybunbury parish 48supra , cf. Tait 20.
