, ( 1858 O.S. ) , named from a local family of Day ( PRHmp freq , Grainge 443 ) ; the second el . ( as in Turpin Lair, Varley Lairinfra ) is Y dial . lair ' a barn ' , probably the same word as dial . lair ' shelter for stock, cowshed ' , but it could be a form of hlaða ' barn ' ( with loss of -th which is common in the pl . , cf. Newlay iii, 214supra and Low Laithe 147infra ) .
