Etymology
was named from the Rev . Sir John Thoroton , incumbent of Bottesford and friend and domestic chaplain to the fifth Duke of Rutland . He died in 1820 . He was knighted by George IV when Prince Regent and supervised the remodelling of Belvoir into the shape of a medieval castle ( work completed c. 1830 ) after the death of the architect James Wyatt in 1813 .
