, Launcestrete 1322MinAcct , Lance Wood 1830 M , possibly from a surname Launce 1366 Ipm , but it may be the pers. n. in Lantesdone 1228 Ch which was , like Launce Wood , between Huntingford in Wotton and Sodbury ; this is of similar origin to Lansdown (So) , bilantes dune ecge a. 1088 Bath Cartulary , which may contain an AN  form Lant - of some OE  pers.n.in Land - ( cf. Feilitzen 308 ) .
