Etymology

( remains of ) ; according to Hutch3 3367 ' it is called the “ tiled house ” and also the “ minster buildings ” , and a tradition in the village says that monks were formerly resident here ' ; perhaps to be associated with the ' vicarage ofSt Peter's ' 1358 Pat , or with the grange of the hospital of St Giles of Pont Audemer ( to which the church , then St Peter 's , was appropriated ) mentioned in 1324 Hutch3 3361 note a , cf. St Mary's Church infra .
