is Blackcoum 1671 Fleming, Blackcomb 1777 NB,Blackcoume 1778 Terrier . Jefferson (AllerA 127) says that this takes its name from the blackness of the heath growing on it . Comb is OE  camb , ' crest . ' Cf. Black Comb supra 441 .
