Etymology

It is apparently to be identified with Scalgarthbare 1462Netherhall , Skalgarth Barn c. 1500 CW (OS) xii, Skalgarsbarre 1515–29CP , Scougarbar 1654 ib., Scrogar-bar 1744Hudleston , Barfield or Scrogar Bar 1776 ib., though Hutchinson (i, 561), in referring to Scoggarbar , does not make this identification.v. skáli , garðr , be(o)rg.
