Etymology

It is possible that this place may appear as Fors c. 1245 StB, Forsce 1472 AD iv, Lez fforce c. 1500 CW (OS) xii. In any case the name is clearly ON  fors, waterfall.' There is a reference in two 13th-century charters (AD iv and v) to the land of Midilfors in Coupeland , which must have been in this neighbourhood, but cannot now be identified.
