Etymology

in Borrowdale and Gowder Barrow ( 6 ″ ) [ gɔdər ] in Muncaster may have the same origin , but no early forms have been found for these names . It is , however , noteworthy that in a Guide to the Lakes ( 1830 ) , reference is made to the notable echo from Gowder Crag and Shepherds Crag in Borrowdale .
