( 6 ″ ) is the threefooted Brandreth 1805Brayton . This contains the word brandreth ( from ON  brand -reið , ' grate ' ) , meaning ' gridiron, tripod . ' The hill may have been named from some three - legged grate on it for a beacon fire . Cf. Brandreth stone in Westward supra 332 .
