Silver Cove

Early-attested site in the Parish of Ennerdale and Kinniside

Historical Forms

  • Silfoucon, Silfhucone (sic MS) 1338 Cl
  • Silver Cowe (or Coue) 1578 Cocker
  • Silver Coves 1650 ParlSurv

The forms are too late for any certain interpretation. The first part of the name resembles Silpho (PN NRY 115), but the meaning of the latter is itself doubtful.
