Smokehall Lane

Other OS name in the Parish of Davenham

Etymology

( 110–653689 to 663682 ) , cf. 203supra , 214 infra . This leads past Moulton Hall to the bank of R . Weaver . The name may be from a derogatory allusion to that house , or to the river - valley ( i.e . ' smoke-hole ' ) , on account of the industrial smoke from the neighbouring river - side salt - factories , numerous here in 19th century .
